2019 | Coastlands at the Singapore Writers Festival | Music & Spoken Word (with various artists)
Laniakea's contribution to this year's SWF was to conceive, curate and present a multi-disciplinary showcase of Pacific Islands cultures that would awaken us to our common heritage in language, values and humanity. Singapore-based practitioners of the folk traditions from the Philippines, Hawaii, Tahiti and the Malay Peninsula presented stories inspired by the Great Ocean in their respective languages. Aaron facilitated a time of audience interaction with the artists after the show. Here is some audience feedback:
“It was amazing having so many different cultural practitioners in the same room. Seeing different culture groups perform back to back helped me see the connections and differences between the Pacific Islands groups. It was also really interesting to see that many of the differences were driven by who colonized the country. Otherwise, we have so much in common!” - Leslie Davis
“Such an eye opening immersive sharing about the common roots of our cultures!" - Yulin
