... come together. Art is that space where Life can be creatively worked out, leading to immersive communion with the Divine, a deeper personal insight and transformation as well as renewed engagement with the world. For the past month, some twenty people of various ages sojourned together in an unprecedented Lent Art Reflections journey. The charming St John's St Margaret's Church had set aside spaces for us to meditate and make art, and hosted weekly check-in days. On each day, artists with an understanding of creative processes shared insights to help catalyse each person's own Lent journey. On the last check-in day everyone took turns to present their works-in-progress: stories were shared, tears were shed, hosannas were offered, oil paintings, watercolours and a woodcut were shown, an original song was sung, poems were read, installation art ideas were expressed, and finally all participated in an imaginatively-composed liturgy of communion for artists, which included sharing a meal of fish and bread. Meaningful community was forged and celebrated; surely what we shared will last for a lifetime and beyond.
Deepest thanks to the amazing Earnest + Mingli for conceiving this special pilgrimage; Peishan, Nigel and the gracious leaders of SJSM for your strong support; and the open-hearted and gifted Bev Wilson for co-facilitating!
